Data center / machine room

At PH-EL & Sikring we have expertise in execution of data centers also cadet machine rooms.

A data center is a place in a building or group of buildings used to house computer systems and associated components, such as servers, telecommunications and storage systems.

The IT installation is essential to the company’s continuity, and includes the general redundant (primary supply, as well as a reserve supply) or backup components and power supply infrastructure, data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire fighting) and various security devices.

The real key word in a data center infrastructure is redundancy, ensuring high availability. It makes you have everything duplicated. You always have a module more than it takes to drive the load.

A central part of the data center is the uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which has to balance the current so as not to notice the fluctuations that exist and which must ensure that the battery supply can take over if needed.

There is a battery bank on each UPS and they are so knit together in such a way that you have a number of strings of batteries so that you have redundancy. This allows you to have a string outside without problems, while the other strings support the UPS.

Many also choose to supplement with one or more diesel generators that can take over if the power goes out or if, for example, you want to make a repair. Then you can run the generator, so you have the extra layer of security.

Another important part of the data center, the cooling center, uses water to keep the temperature down. Free cooling is also used, so that instead of using the compressor you can use the cold air from outside if the weather is good.
